A Million Suns by Beth Revis

Rating: ★★★★☆ 4/5

Review:

The storyline of this book is very unique. I loved it, even better than the first book. It’s captivating and mysterious. The puzzle that Orion left for Amy to solve combined with the new murder mystery Amy and Elder have to solve is perfection. It’s funny at times, and the reveal of the murderer and the secrets that Amy and Elder reveal are heart-stoppingly shocking. The ending leaves you on a huge cliffhanger that is killing me right now cause I WANNA KNOW WHAT’S ON CENTAURI-EARTH!! And, I can’t get a hold of the book right now, so I have to wait a few days before I get to find out… humph.

One thing I didn’t like was that the two perspective narration is still confusing at times. And, the two main characters, Amy and Elder, have very similar personalities, which makes the two point of views that much more confusing. I would have liked it better if Amy and Elder had more unique personalities. They do have differing views on, say for example Orion, but I feel if their positions were reversed, they would have thought exactly what the other person thought. That just shows how similar their personalities and mindset are. But, throughout this book, Elder’s character does develop into a much better leader than in the first book.

Another thing I didn’t like was the development of the romance between Elder and Amy. Amy keeps saying she doesn’t know what to feel for Elder, but then suddenly she makes up her mind and says “my heart is his.” WHAT?? I don’t understand how suddenly she can make up her mind when she didn’t know what to feel a few chapters ago. Love is a gradual feeling, not a sudden feeling that crashes into you in 2 minutes. But, I can understand how almost losing someone can bring out feelings that you never knew were there.

If you’re looking for a science fiction space novel with secrets and mysteries that the characters have to uncover, this would be the perfect series for you. This book is more suspenseful than action-filled (as in not that much physical fighting or chasing/running away from monsters or near-death experiences), but it is still extremely exciting with betrayals and plot twists; you wouldn’t want to put the book down until you solve the mysteries!
