Review:
This book is hilarious. I loved it. I could relate to Keeley a bit. For example, I usually find myself able to express myself through text better than face-to-face. But, I expected Keeley to be more afraid to talk rather than just choosing not to talk, like having social anxiety.
Aside from Keeley’s personality, I think all high school students can relate to some part of the story, especially since Keeley is a high school senior dealing with college apps and boys. This book really highlights the struggles of high school seniors like grades, dating, friends, driving, procrastination, etc.
The texts, corny jokes, and teasing between Keeley and Talon really give you laugh. AND THE PEEPS. OMG I never would have thought Peeps could add such a nice touch to the story. I also liked the conflicts between Keeley, Talon, and Zach. It adds some suspense into the story, making the book very hard to put down.
One part I didn't really like was how the text messages were formatted. I read this book in ebook format, and the text messages sent were a bit confusing at times. It was difficult to distinguish between the texts and the narration. I’m not sure if that’s how it is on hard-copy, but it would have been better if there were more tabs for the text messages or format the texts differently from the narration.
Another thing is that I would have preferred the narration to be in first person rather than third person. The third person narration + the dialogue got a bit confusing at times, and first person would have allowed the reader to connect with Keeley better.
This book is mostly about Keeley and Talon, but I was struck by how close Keeley and her twin are. I really admire how much the twins go to each other for their problems and how much they care and love each other. It makes me a little jealous and wish I had a sibling that close.
This is a coming-of-age story, where Keeley learns to control herself without other people dictating what she should do and shouldn't do. It also teaches about forgiveness, being truthful, and learning from your past mistakes. These might sound pretty cheesy and boring, but I promise these lessons are incorporated into the story very nicely.
Overall, I loved this book. It's a quick and easy read that is funny, cute, and captivating. The plot isn't very complicated and I really wish there were more to this story!
